The Montgomery County Police Department’s Drone as First Responder (RAVEN) was deployed on Thursday, March 13, assisting in several separate missions throughout the day, including two theft cases and the search for the missing child.

Officers were first called around 1:10 p.m. for a theft in progress in the 900 block of Thayer Avenue.

While officers rushed to the scene, RAVEN spotted two suspects leaving the store, tracked their location, and directed officers, leading to a quick arrest.

Later that afternoon, officers responded to Pennydog Court at 4:35 p.m. for a missing child report.

RAVEN was first on scene, scanning the area from overhead and pinpointing the child’s exact location for officers. The 5-year-old was found safe and quickly reunited with their family.

Then, at 7:56 p.m., police responded to a theft at a Nike store on Arlington Road. RAVEN locked onto the suspects from above and gave officers an exact address, leading to the arrest of four individuals without incident.

In total, police say RAVEN completed 17 missions on March 13, proving just how valuable a drone can be in keeping the community safe.
